The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 整个情节确实是英剧的路子，结尾反转挺意外，但是感觉有点俗，呵呵，结尾也是英剧式的克制。能看得进去。不过现在看西式的普世价值观，总觉得有点虚伪，妹妹才五岁，其实没必要顶罪，对于孩子心理来讲顶不顶罪，没什么区别，她要不记得，不顶罪也没影响，她要记得，顶罪又有什么用，平白分离这么多年，不好意思，剧透了。

2022-13。开头的镜头还算干净清楚，节奏不紧不慢。水产工厂的追求者有点跑题，养父母的态度相互转变和最后的喜相逢就很突兀。本不复杂的故事，非要加入很多其他情节，让它看起来有点复杂其实无关
62/100。同为对社会边缘女性进行关注的影片，本片与哈莉·贝瑞的《伤痕累累》似乎可以对照着看，但区别于后者描绘得一知半解的态度转变，本片女主角桑德拉·布洛克饰演的这个角色从头到尾的人物性格都是始终如一的，她对于想要去庇护的妹妹跨越二十年的爱让整部电影的情节很难不坚实而饱满，想让它显得支离破碎都会在最后被团成一团。但是问题在于，其他支线都写的太过于散漫了，后继者和报复者的性格转变毫不符合现实地纯粹为剧情服务，失去了本片原本能传达出来的更为强烈的真实感与动人程度，甚至会有一种“这个角色真的有必要存在吗”的多余感。

居然是在Seattle拍的，这儿阴郁的天气倒也符合这故事的基调
别再纠结什么为5岁妹妹顶罪或者法律的问题了。试问她当时如果说是妹妹开的枪会有人信么。就算有人信。一个5岁的孩子杀了警察。她的一生会好么。当警察抓到她的时候。她把妹妹的座位调整到一个背向视角。就是为了挡在妹妹前面。自己去面对所有的惩罚。

结尾有点出人意表地让人感动了一点点。但是冷静想想，这样结尾太划水了。前面做了那么多铺垫，几组家庭各种人物关系的冲突眼看着就要到来，给了观众那么多故事即将推向高潮的期待感，临最后却急刹车，以一种最温柔的方式结束，容易给人虎头蛇尾的感觉。而且妹妹对姐姐的态度前面铺垫的还是太少。回头梳理剧情，发现硬伤太多太多了。但是我倒觉得女主角演得挺好的。一个没读什么书且坐过二十年牢的女人这种性格很容易让人相信，但是案件的起因也真的是经不起推敲。
是不是只要全程板着脸，装冷酷，就会被吹爆演技？比如《一代宗师》的章子怡。剧情好才是真的好
故事情节的推动稍微有些刻意，特别是为了引出最后高潮而安排的两兄弟整绿帽子的剧情，简直离谱。不过整部电影的节奏确实是很抓人，非常扎实没有任何注水成分。

女主20年前为啥不找个年轻人演，跟她6岁的妹妹看起来像娘俩，其实20年后也像。
基本上是个大女主电影，桑德拉布洛克也没让人失望，印象里第一次看她演那么苦情的角色，细节表情把握得很好，小金人还真有戏。
