The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 和扎导《正义联盟》横向相比，感觉2017年看的是一个假的正义联盟，扎导版删掉了很多漫威式打趣的东西。整个电影只有蝙蝠侠对着闪电侠的名场面这个笑点保留了下来，总体来说其实挺严肃的，以及，它包含了扎导对于家庭的一些个人的执念，角色小传放大令电影更加饱满，尽管这种饱满有些见仁见智。也不难理解华纳当初的决定，要把240分钟的电影放在戏院，这个比外星人入侵地球的概率还要低。慢镜头的Flash back又和闪电侠的“逆转时间”的慢镜头重复，显得有些多余。电影还有不少缺点，比如海王略显沉闷，存在感比较低。因为镜头限制，我也觉得这不是一个最完美的版本，也可以理解评价分化，因为对于路人观众，彩蛋这个加分项也一头雾水，过于正面的价值观也让故事一开始就失去了悬念。 / 2022.3.1 家, Piratic
#BIFF2021 电影时长三小时，个人对这种叙事很宏伟的电影不太感冒，但有几个镜头如剧照一般的确很惊艳

得感谢豆瓣徽章，否则估计很难会去看4个小时的超英电影。DC小白也看的有滋有味，也算是DC入门了吧，面面俱到的交代背景以及画面特效都在线让人观感预约，唯一不足的就是高潮大战处理的太简单了，铺垫了半天结果超人三下五除二就结束了战斗，过瘾度不够
老不老，新又新，旧戏新唱，三小时白驹过隙，叹息岁月。
加了好多文戏，让剪辑版比影院版精致了不止一点两点，四个小时一下就过去了！尿都舍不得尿！

匠气很重 逃不出史诗叙述的企图心 相当另类 十分有趣 但还是有点被审美绊倒的奇观电影
前半段旧时代，舞台风格极强，妙笔频出，用模型做小镇空拍，并以刀划破天空作为抗战到来的预警；用真人来扮演被供着的佛像，还在逃跑时候卷起来扛着到处走。 后半段新时代，犹如《霸王别姬》《无悔追踪》的串场，也有自然灾害时期，大粪里找蛆烤着吃补充蛋白这种具体情节。叙事结构上阴阳交叠，牛头马面来捉人上路，不过黄泉路上的拍法未免单调。
dc粉的话应该会更喜欢 作为非dc粉以及没看过几部其他电影的 可以给好评 但背景和情怀方面就略显不够了
前两个小时时长塑造几个角色心路历程比较饱满，母盒来世今生算是讲明白。除了钢骨，闪电侠作用大很多，尤其是最后一幕大战中。达克赛德，火星猎人，卢瑟，都有出镜，以及梦境中黑化超人和海王之死，是想看的一部DC宇宙电影。
形式做到满了，非常非常有诚意。然而坐在今日的时代，确实难言这是我最今年喜欢的电影，说是文艺片但表达逻辑却是商业的。我大概期望看到跟个体有关的，最直接的电影。似乎在写人，其实却是在写戏。
3.5/5。本月最后一场在nyc的电影，这次雷暴还专门改了航班为了看一场，结果既没雷暴又还是期望过高。可以看出导演的野心，也很喜欢各种民俗和戏曲元素的叠加（唉，听到熟悉的戏曲还有点鼻酸，想外公了。）和四川话（字幕翻不出精髓啊），但我不是很喜欢整部电影给我的戏台感：虽然戏如人生，但以此来演绎人生和历史又会让我觉得出戏。像是儿时的一个梦，却总是和现实隔着一层帘布。同时男主的这个角色塑造也没能persuade me 他在戏曲上的成就，因为很显然这不是全片的focus。在知道它是众筹后还是不满意片中的戏曲训练，总觉得如果要展现丘福是一位如此杰出的丑角，这方面还是应该占比更多，否则就让我感到脱节和牵强了。另外真的很冗长，后半段略好。不过还是未来可期。(@anthology)
看着看着 想到了霸王别姬 又想到了活着，但话剧般的布景走位 放大缩小的镜头 却又独树一帜。能把这么宏大时代叙事架构下，又把nuances拍得出来，又加入阎王地府的元素 真的太棒太棒了 (第一次在纽约看indie film @anthology film archives
弥补了导剪版的遗憾，但那些无望面世的项目和设想又成了新的意难平。钢骨有搞头，一人血书拍部苦大仇深的单人电影。
本人不是什么DC漫威粉，只是看个热闹，但这部确实没话说的好，音乐特别好，每个人都交代的不错，感觉海王稍稍弱了点，之前那部实在不行，这4个小时很值得，还有不是宽屏，刚看的时候我还以为电视机坏了呢😁
风格很独特，50-70年代那些情节很intense，很震撼。tuoer转着相机，突然世界安静了，那个镜头特别好。整部片都非常有巧思。最后死去的两派hwb太高明了
既虚构又真实，既魔幻又现实，既老又新。就是感觉没讲完，还能讲…
平行世界的复仇者联盟？？巴特，魔幻的级别和叙事的手法弱了点啊，最烦滥用慢镜头。。2个小时差不多了吧，碎觉比较重要。。弃了。。
