The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. 作为一部公路电影，《无依之地》的故事显而易见地毫无秘密和新奇所言。公路电影中的“告别，然后再次上路”的主题内核是难以超脱同时也是无可厚非的。不过《无依之地》虽然有些刻意，至少它仍然是诗意的。弗兰西斯·麦克多蒙德的表演的女主角Fern充满质感，就像在我们生活中的身边，而时代的转变与其中生存个体之间的冲撞也是当下世界全人类共通的文本。
也是一段无法与过去和解，停留在回忆里的破碎的心的故事，Fern是那么孤独而坚强，试图通过踏上公路努力继续前进，却始终只是在原地打转
