The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 网飞的第一张圣诞浪漫基情片。Now THAT is what I call a good old jolly X'mas porn. 在圣诞片里算是难得的故事编得不太蠢的，当然还又甜又苏，一掐一泡水，个个都还居然会演戏（参照别的圣诞片）。适合圣诞早上一个人醉熏熏的边喝着eggnog边自怜自艾的看，为不相干的美丽人儿终于找到其他更美丽的人儿哭哭笑笑，艳慕着别人耶诞童话里的高级生活。黑人小哥实在太可了，这傻白彼得其实配不上。Now excuse me while I jizz my pants and cry into my ugly sweater.
不点失望。刻意，尴尬，cringy, cheesy and corny。真的看预告就可以猜结局，也不甜呀，也不节目，也不温情。netflix给你钱，你就不要浪费呀。

圣诞必备合家欢系列，同性装上异性恋的套路 直接被我基友吐槽到爆，但里面的男人都太可了！非常下饭！
谁能想到是看着这部电影跨了个年呢，可能真的要 single all the way 了吧
2.5 故事线简单清新 但确实蛮无聊 打发时间可以看 主配角的颜值倒是很在线
天啊….整个故事概括： 在大城市打拼的男主角和室友是如何一步步被原生家庭道德绑架最后和全家认可的对象交往并从大城市离职返回家乡小城…
节日电影有这个样子算OK，万幸的是没有三角狗血drama，是成熟人的恋爱方式。不过男主拥有的一切都太不真实了，全体支持的家人，火辣的gay蜜，成熟火辣还稳重的blind date，最后居然可以回乡开绿植店坐拥火辣男友，我的天，有这些前面单身三十年也不怕啊！
虽然剧情走向从两男主一亮相，就猜出个七七八八，也并没影响到继续看完整个故事的热情。3个男生都是好菜，各有各的香，Peter的家庭组成也符合圣诞节的标准配置。环节上没有多余，没有不够，传统的西方节日里，套着不传统的GAY版爱情，欢乐带来的感染力完全不受性别取向拘泥。
大龄催婚，family-person，全家翘首等着你的相亲结果，谁能想到我竟然能在一个大洋彼岸的gay身上找到最强烈的情感共鸣呢？
这并不是“主流形态”各个细节也没有起到任何消解刻板印象的作用 都要2022了网飞还拍出个这尼玛离谱

还是很有诚意的一部作品。主角颜值演技都在线，看时心里真的会有触动……
